TrineDay’s Roundtable 30
FOUNDING FATHER ROBERT MORRIS AND MONEY IN AMERICA
Economic Justice and The Narrative Creation Process
A FREE Zoom Event
Wed. May 22, 2024
3:00 – 4:30 pm Eastern
RSVP required at Valediction.net/eventlist
TrineDay’s Roundtables explore President John F. Kennedy’s plan for world peace and Henry George’s economics, which create economic justice, the prerequisite for peace.
Special guest Robert M. Morris will present the indispensable contributions to America’s founding made by his ancestor Robert Morris and how he was “written out of history” by his enemies who won the election of 1800. Discussion will follow about the “narrative creation process” and the questions:
What is money?
On what should its value be based?
How, in a democratic republic, can the people guarantee economic justice and opportunity for all?
We recently explored Alexander Hamilton’s American System of economics, which arguably created the greatest periods of industrial growth and wealth in our history.
Henry George, whom we always discuss, diagnosed how that progress made some people very rich, but it also sank many into poverty, because land values rose faster than wages, which leads to many problems, including the unaffordable housing and homelessness that plagues us today. (Georgist Economics solves that problem by taxing unearned income, substituting land value taxation, and removing taxes from labor and production.)
What’s so urgent about this conversation? Well, as Joshua Vincent, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Economics, said in a recent Roundtable:
“The worst people in the world know what this is. … And they understand the power of land value and land economics and land rent. That’s how they get rich without working. … we’ve figured out how to [transform the situation] here in the USA, Estonia, Denmark, Australia. Lots of places do it. … that’s how you disarm the speculators who are very dangerous.”
